Default image parlance

I understand that choosing an image with more pixels will give me greater resolution. Is there any meaning to the terms jpeg, tiff, etc. that I should know? Thanks for your help.

Refer to this link on Steve's web site:

I would also point you to

www.shortcourses.com

A very helpful site for understanding photography terms.
