Default My flash is overkill sometimes

Hi,
My flash, in some situations is really overkill; it whites out a lot of spaces when I'm trying to do close up imaging. Here is an example of this issue:

any ideas on how to fix this? or make it less obvious?

1. Put tissue paper over flash (simplest is best), or...

2. Use manual control of exposure if available;

3. Use external flashgun on end of an extension lead;

4. Use external slave flashgun with opaque reflector blocking light from built-in flash to subject but reflecting it towards the auxiliary one;

5. Go outside & use available light.

6. Go further away, and sacrifice some resolution by cropping the image.

Have Fun

I'm curious as to whether the issue too much light or the hair is shinny and giving off a glare from the flash?

the hair is shiny. but not THAT shiny; I'd say 70% of that blaring overkill-white is not shine related.
