Default Newbie Senior Needs Help With Background Color in Photos

All of a sudden after years of using my Sony DSC T10 and using it to photograph still items for an auction, the background color is not true. If I place the item on a table with a beige wall, the wall comes out blue. If I place it in front of a yellow wall, the color comes out white. It becomes difficult to adjust the colors using PaintShopPro because if I get the wall color to be accurate, then the item is wrong.
What am I doing wrong???? OR - do I need a new camera???

It sounds as if the White balance has gotten changed to an improper setting. Do you you use flash for these pictures? If so, it is likely that the setting has changed to 'tungsten lighting', which would cause just the syptoms you mention.

The camera manual should tell you how to change the WB if needed. It may also be that the camera is in one of the various scene modes, which can change the WB settings. This page:http://www.steves-digicams.com/camer...-review-3.html has some information which might help.
Do the colors appear in the LCD when you are taking the pics the same as on your computer monitor?

Yes the color in the LCD is the same as on the monitor but then again, the wall color in the LCD picture is not the same as the actual color!

Then, if you haven't changed any of the camera settings, the light source must have changed. You should be able to compensate for this, but, as I don't have a manual for your camera, I can't tell you how to do it.

G'day mate

As VT says ~ it's hard without a manual to go from

However ...
~ does the rear panel of the camera have a 4-way button surrounding the OK button?
if so, does one of those 4-way buttons say "WB" and if so, what is it set to?

~ does the camera menu have a "settings" option vs the "photo" option?
somewhere in those menu options will be "WB" [just like the button above if it exists] -or- can you find the "factory reset" option which will zap all user settings except the date stuff

Several things for you to try
Phil
