Default Tamron 1.4x Sp pro vs AF teleconverter

Why have I been told the SP AF Pro is better than the AF 1.4x Teleconverter..they say it produces sharper pics?

Because it costs more.

Actually, independent tests have shown that generic 1.4X teleconverters from Kenko, et al, are about as good as anybody's matched teleconverters, like Tamron's SP teleconverters (which are very likely rebranded Kenko Teleplus PRO 300 TCs, btw.)

It's not that matched 1.4X teleconverters are better than generic ones, it's that generic ones are so good that the difference between them is slight and subject to interpretation.

2.0X teleconverters are another matter, however.
