Default C4000Zoom

I just got this camera and find that I get jagged diagonals and edges if I am viewing at anything less than one to one, with the default camera setting. hq. even thumbnails look bad. I had two c40zooms last month but returned them. They never had this effect. Please anyone - what is occurring, is it a fault? I notice taking exactly the same shots the file sizes are about 15% smaller than on the c40z at the same resolution. Have Olympus altered the default compression or something. I am new to this, sorry.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Anytime you view an image that is larger than your screen resolution it will usually not look 100% right when scaled down in a viewing program.

It is not uncommon for a 2048x1536 (3-megapixel) picture to look a little weird if shown scaled down on a 800x600 screen display. You can always convert your images down to a smaller size, many graphic viewers or editors have batch features to convert entire directories of images at once. And of course, you can always shoot at VGA 640x480 resolution. Those big 3-, 4- and 5-megapixel images are for printing and editing, not screen viewing.

If I scale them down they still look jagged. Thanks, but what you say still don't explain why the c40z I had last month never had this effect. Or at least only mild in comparison.
