this does not acure on every digicam..

to test if the camera has dead pixels put on the lens cap on the camera and take a photo in a dark place then view it on ur computer and if it has white stars on the pictures or white dots. or something that is dead pixels.. if it was colourfull thats is hot pixels..

heres a list of cameras that will have no dead pixels or hot pixels:

Sony
Olympus

thats it well thats one of the good brands..

heres a list of cams that have hot pixels:

NIKON

i realy recomend u a SONY

re : mdorani,
thx for a very clear guide into dead & hot pixels . and if I may, 2 additional questions :

[1] since the digi-cam craze here in Korea, where every other person is shopping for it, now after we've all got our doze of cell-phones (now introducing camera-installed phones), it has become a ritual to test for dead/hot pixels on the spot BEFORE purchase . so much so that even Internet malls will do it for U before shipment if U ask for it . but me, I've changed digi-cams about 4 times now, and haven't bothered it at all . now, how vital is this REALLY ?

[2] your statement that Sony & Olympus DON'T have dead/hot pixels, and that Nikons DO .. is this always true ?

Default Dead or Hot pixels

For the human eye to detect a hot or dead pixel in phot that has 4 million pixels (a 4 mega pixel camera) is slim. The testing method is good but be sure not let anything scratch the lens. A camera with 4 or 5 hot spots or dead pixels will not affect the photo quality.
