hi DrDictionary please dont get mad if i write wrong

well i am thinking about it but i dont want to spend US$ 500 on a camcorder and worse i dont know camcorders ive never used one, what i know is DV and digital8 dont need "capture card?" but they need firewire pci card and firewire cable, if i get a camcorder i should buy it also. if i buy a hi8 camcorder i must buy a "capture card?" and a new hd?? i have a amd xp 2.0 with an samsung 5400rpm 40gb hd. if i buy a camcorder it must be a cheap but RELIABLE one i was looking JVC GRD30 MiniDV at about US$300 in sites like ebay but found lots of people with problems"Condensation, Operation Paused" now i am looking at SonyCCD-TRV 128 but its a hi8 so i must get a capture card, more money, i just want to have some videos of my child not high definition, but good ones, and i want to write on cd-rs or cd-rws period !! just that dont wanna get a vhs camera i want a SMALL one very basic hi8, dv, digital8 i really dont know but i want something easy to convert to svcd i wont edit the images i just want to put it on cd to watch on my dvd and make copies to my parents so they can watch on their dvds also, just for fun. well if you know a camcorder (more options better)that fullfill my necessity i will be glad to look at it, but i want a reliable, robust one, thanks for your concern.

hey what do you think about the SHARP VL-AH151 ?? thanks.

I'm going to choose between the pantax and the nikon coolpix 3700 which has a good movie mode 640 x 480 (30 fps) and is very compact but has not much zoom...

We'll wait and see....

look i was thinking this way but if you are looking to a camera to take photos AND movies i think you shouldlook IMHO at Oly 770 or pentax(damn when this camera will be released?) cause both are mpeg4 and if i am not wrong you can record almost 9 minutes on these cameras with 128mb, more than 34 minutes on a 512 card (on oly page they show the butterfly movie 3,2mb in 13s) and if you get something different to mpeg 4 like the fuji f700 640x480 30fps you get less than 2 minutes (1min 44seg)on a 128 card and less than 7minutes on a 512 card

(darn when this camera will be released?)

Pentax said: any day... but than we still have to wait for some revieuws and... I am scared that it is not as compact as it seems on the pics.

7 min video is 'not bad' I want to buy a 'hama datasafe' (portable cd writer) to be able to put the video straight on cd so the card will be empty for more videos..

Too much choise:?

The movie function is only 15 fps by the nikon 4200. The pic quality is not fantastic by the 5200 as some people say.

The specs of the samsung are indeed very good but if I look at the review of the excisting samsung (U CA 3 - I think) I see that the pics quality is not fantastic and the shutterlagThat one also has the mpeg4 movie mode.

I can't believe the new models will be much of a difference.
