I never heard of them. Looks like they are a japanese firm. How long have they been making camera's? Do they make thier own lens ?

Kyocera cameras are sold under the brand names Kyocera, Yashica and Contax.

Their optics division also manufacturers lenses under the Carl Zeiss brand name.

That's one of the reasons that you see so many relatively inexpensive digicams with "Zeiss" optics (at a fraction of what a Zeiss lenswouldbe expected to cost)-- designed byCarl Zeiss (but actually manufactured in Japan).

It is my understanding that all Japanese Zeiss lenses (which by volume means the vast majority of all Zeiss lenses worldwide) are made in Japan by Kyocera (Yashica) under license from Zeiss.

This includes the "Zeiss" lenses in all Sony and Contax cameras (Kyocera has the exclusive right to manufacturer and distribute "Zeiss Designed" lenses in Japan and Asia).

Production of Contax moved from Zeiss Ikon to Yashica in 1975.
