I just bought a DiMage 7i. It comes with a flower hood but I was wondering if I should buy a full hood. What does the flower hood do over the full hood or vice versa? What is the difference? I know that a hood blocks out flare and protects the lense from rain/snow but what is the difference between a flower hood and the full hood? If I am to buy a new hood, what do you suggest?

thanks

The flower hood has a gap at each "corner" of the lens (since the camera sees the image as a rectangle). It's designed to give the absolute maximum coverage without vignetting (shadows at the image "corners"). If it was complete all the way round it would need to be shallower or the corners would vignette.

Be creative and make one yourself. A little thin cardboard (like a cereal box), or thin plastic (like a margerine container), and some Velcro, mixed in with a little creativity and imagination should get the job done.
