Default USB 1.0 vs 2.0

I just bought the Canon i850 printer which is USB 2.0. My system has the Canon 4000US Scanner and a Cardreader which are both USB. Do I need to upgrade the USB card so it will work with my new printer?

no usb 2 is backwards compatible to 1.1. the difference is the speed of the data xfr. it will run at 1.1 speed. printers are not fast data movers. my printer has firewire and that was a disappointment in speed. they put the usb 2 in to guarantee compatibility. your printer buffers the image in 2 places depending on the printer the buffer size is 248KB. that alone will speed thing along. the other buffer is on your hard drive. try to push a 2MB picture thru there slows thing up a little.

where the usb 2 is going to make a difference is in a CF reader. if you have a microdrive or a 256mb or above CF card it will cut download times by a third at minimum.
