How can I lower the size of a picture down to 250k without resizing it to make it smaller.

You'll still want to resize it to around 640x480 or less so that it will display properly in the forum posts. But, to answer you question, you can get a smaller file size by using more JPEG Compression (assuming you are using JPEG as the file type).

Most image editors let you specify the quality of an image when using the "Save As" menu choice with a slider of some type for JPEG files. Lower quality=Higher JPEG Compression=Smaller File Size.

I'm using PSP8 saved as a JPEG-JIFF Compliant. The only other jpeg save as type is JPEG 2000. Any suggestions.

When you use the Save As option, you'll see an Options button. Click on it and move the slider towards Highest Compression/Lowest Quality and you'll get a smaller filesize (but don't move it anymore than you need to, as quality will degrade if too much JPEG compression is applied).

Hi CaliBoy.. I'm not sure what you ask? You want to reduce the file size, but with no resizing..

Usually both are required, when one wants to change the image file for emailing, or posting.

Maybe you have some other reason forless file size without resize.

However after using several image editors to do this resizing/reducing with success, I now find that a free application does it much easier.

The application can be found on: http://www.trivista.com

It is called A Smaller Image, install file size 1.01MB

Really it is amazing, shows two windows, original & reduced image.

With several options to select the output resolution, crop, adjust brightness, contrast, & others.

I've used it for some high resolution files of 4mb, that reduce to whatever you select, with file sizes of about 100kb

Recommended.
