What are VR lenses and what benefits do they have?

If you are refering to the Nikon lens technology it stands for Vibration Reduction.

It reduces motion blur created by the holder of the camera. It lets you get pictures of non-moving objects/scenes using a shutter speed lower than would normally be recommended (because motion in the camera would blur the image.)

It doesn't help with moving subjects, but it works very well for static ones. Canon has a similar tech called "IS" (Image Stabilization) and Sigma created their own version called "OS" (Optical Stabilization).

Thanks for the help. I guess I should have posted this up into the Nikon forum.
