Default Soon to be owner of Minolta S404.. Questions..

How would I be able to get a picture with a Blured background but with the Subject still in focus?

I don't know the 404 in particular, but most digicams in its class have a portrait mode that's designed to do that. It automatically selects a wide aperture, which reduces the depth of field. You can do that yourself in aperture control or manual mode.

You can do this with aperture and shutter settings. Look for it in the manual. The S404 is a versatile camera that will let you experiment the depth of field settings.
