Default brand new to digital, I need help

I am looking to purchase my first dc and do not understand any of the language or what I should be looking for ....up to now i have used a 35mm auto focus.I want something easy to use but with decent quality pictures in the mid range price.will be using indoors and out, mostly for family shots and travel photos.. would like it to take vidoes as well.with sound.any help would be very much appreciated

I would recommend the Olympus C4040 (about $500) . You can obtain pricing from www.dealtime.com. It is a 4mp camera, excellent lens, movie capable, and takes great pictures.

Probably the best match for you would be the Fuji S602, which has a nice 6x lens (the extra zoom is good for outdoors because it brings things in closer) and the best video available in a still camera. Steve's got a review here.

On the site that Jim Hunt listed, you will see shortcourses in other areas. Look at them and it will help with understanding and using your camera.
