Default $250 camera that shows closeup detail?

I'm a novice looking for an affordable digital camera that would take good detailed closeups on small items like music boxes & small dolls that i want to sell on eBay. I've been looking at the Canon powershot A40, but am not quite sure it would give the right resolution for the potential customer. Wrong camera? or would I need an additional lens for the A40? Know zero, all help gratefully received.

The A40 is a good beginners camera, but it's strong point is not macro. You need to buy it's adapter ring and a closeup lens to match most other digital cameras' capabilities. Even a Fuji A101 gets closer. My old Fuji FinePix 1300 could get to a few inches, and took macros much better than was reported on the major reviewing sites. Have a look at

Try taking a look at the Olympus 510 review at this sight. If sounds good you can by a refurb direct from Olympus @ $199, use the other $50 for card reader and rechargeable batteries. Sounds like the 510 has good macro mode.
Good Luck,
Gary
