Default I need help with my Oly C-4000

I have recently purchased an Oly C=4000 zoom. Its a great camera and Iam very very happy with my choice. I am new to digital cameras however, and Iam unable to figure out how to enable/use the multi-spot metering mode. I have been able to play with all the other features except this one. Can someone please explain to me what I must do to use this feature! Hurry quick because its driving me crazy and my dog is getting tired of being kicked around every time I try to figure it out! Thanks!!

On the 2nd page of the Camera menu is the Multi Metering option, you enable it and then can take up to 8 "spot" meterings that will determine the exposure value.

Steve, Thanks for your reply!! When I turn to the 2nd page..."multi Metering" is not highlighted as being available to choose. Am I configured properly? It will not allow me to select it.

This is the tie-breaker question that shows if you've REALLY read the manual!

Before you can enable multi metering, you have to set the Custom button to AE lock. The Custom button is the one under the Quick View button (the one you probably haven't found a use for yet).

OK
Mode menu
Setup
Custom button -> AE lock
OK
OK

then

Spot metering ON (button below flash button)
OK
Mode menu
Camera
Multi metering -> ON
OK
OK

Now which genius at Olympus earned his annual bonus by thinking that one up? What's especially interesting is that having set the Custom button to AE lock, you never actually press it!
