What graphics packages do you have? A quick search on Google on "photo watermarking" found a Paint Shop Pro tutorial ( http://www.grafx-design.com/24psp.html ). Here's a free utility ( http://www.pictureshark.com/ ) that doesn't rely on an image editing package. There are lots and lots of utilities and tutorials out there by the looks of my Google result.

Here's a web site that discusses watermarking, JavaScript, and other methods of handling the copyright issues: http://www.lucidimages.net/copyright.html

Enjoy!

I just add text using 25-35% transparency (so it isn't super bold looking) and generally place it over a portion of the image to make it difficult for someone to quickly "clone" it out. I use PhotoImpact or Photoshop to add the text.
