Default hp photosmart 812 data transfer

Greetings. Is there a way to upload pics from the 812 directly to a hard disc, like a zip drive? Is this something I need to see a hacker about?

How do it know if it's sending to a printer, computer, tv, or a french poodle? Was it a dirty trick by HP to exclude outboard hard drives from its uploading scheme?

The reason I ask is because we're going on a cruise and would rather not be forced to lug a computer along or buy their expensive little SD memory cards...... Thanks for listening.

There is the X drive VP2030. You can read the reviews on Steves Digicam accessories. You can purchase one from Computer Geeks at http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=VP-2030.

Install any size low profile hard drive in the case. It comes with an internal rechargeable battery system. Slide your media card in and start copying. You need to reformat the card after you have copy all the files to the VP2030. There seems to be a corruption problem if you do not take this precaution.

If it's SM, what happens if you put the write protect tab on it and erase in the cam after downloading? I can only assume corruption happens when pics are being deleted, always dodgy moving pics, as opposed to copy - the cards file transfer is relatively slow. Can't understand otherwise, why it writes back to the card??
