Default Newbie: Pentax Optio 230 OR Fuji 2600 zoom?

I want to buy a digital camera.
First time.

I want a small camera, good quality.
Looking like a "analog" camera.
2 Mpixel. Min 2x optical zoom.
USB etc..

I have narrowed down the field to
the Fuji 2600 zoom.
And the Pentax Optio 230.

They are around the same price.
The Pentax specs are better. But I dislike the "dust" in Steve M&M man picture.

What would you advise me???

thx! in advance

I would look further. 2x optical is never enough, 3 minuim. Lack of optical cannot be made up with digital zoom.

I recently bought the Pentax Optio 230, and have been thrilled with it. I bought a 2 mp camera due to price considerations, and tried out a number of them at our local camera store. They allowed me to take home sample images taken in the shop (on CD) of each of the cameras I looked at. The colour of the Pentax images was superior to the other cameras I tested (only Compact Flash cameras), and this was a critical factor for me.

I have found that the Pentax had a couple of features which weren't advertised in the brochure such as an AF assist lamp, and Slow Synch flash in Night Mode. I bought the camera on the 18th June, and have taken over 1000 photos to date, in an effort to learn how to use it as well as possible. I have been very happy with the quality of the pictures.

The only problem I have with it is in low light. Based on the comparisons we did in the camera store, the Pentax performed as well as all the others (a number of 3mp cameras we were testing for a client as well) except perhaps the Canon Powershot S30. If you use the Night Mode, that generally overcomes all problems except my ability to hold the camera still for long shutter speeds.

I am happy to email you some sample pics if desired.

Hope this helps
