Default What does this mean?

What does this mean?

The menu options while in Auto:

Image Resolution 1600x1200, 1024x768 or 640x480

Image Compression Superfine, Fine, Normal

Is one the size and the other ?

The numbers 1200x1600 etc are the number of pixels up and across. So 1600x1200 is 2million pixels or 2megapixels or 2mp. Take as many pics as you can with the most pixels.

Use the other ones when you are desperate for memory only.

Fine etc is the amount of compression the camera uses for its JPEG photos. Fine is least compression and best quality. See how many photos you can take at each setting.

Generally, 1200x1600 at Fine should be ok, normal when running out of memory - but you should buy shed loads of memory especially for holidays if you are away from your PC for long.

You have a Canon??

Yes, the first is the size of the image. The second is the amount of JPEG compression. Superfine is the least, and yields the highest quality image at that size. It also yields the largest file size.

I suggest you shoot 1600x1200 at SuperFine at all times, unless you have a really good reason not to.
