Does your EXIF data survive those transitions?

Not sure that you meant to say otherwise, but it cannot be emphasized enough - .Save your originals exactly as they come from the camera with no editing, format changes, or any other changes.. Save that original to CDR (not CDRW).

If you don't understand why, that is a good reason to do it. That way if you find out later that you really want to have an unaltered original, you will have it.

Hard drive are very reasonable and it is feasable to have one hard drive for orginal photos. Bill has stated the importance of good editing techniques. CDR and DVD R are great ways to make permanent backup of original photos. The nice thing about children in college, their computer breaks and you can order a new one. My son broke his, he receives mine and I order a new one. Not much of an offset for the tution cost.

I think it probably works the other way around in this house.

Why is it I pay for everything and get the pass-ons - oh I know, mums and sons - I'm on a loser.
