Default Newbie needs help for choosing best compact digital camera!

Hi to everyone,

Im a student at the moment and want a digital camera for making websites (not serious websites, just for fun) and general use outdoor and indoor (clubbing )

Im after a digital camera that is as small as possible but will not loose to much quality (2 Ė 3MP would be ideal). I want to spend roughly between £100 - £200 although £200 is pushing my student budget! I was extremely close to buying a Mustek camera as it was small, cheap and the quality was good but it had no flash and would be no good for indoor. This camera though was 2.1MP but could be enhanced to 3.1MP with software or something! Is this possible? Check it out if you like I donít think you have reviewed mustek products before:

I now though have my eye on the Toshiba PDR-T10 -

- which is an incredible looking camera that has all of the features i require but i cant understand how the mustek is only £79 at dabs and can have up to 3.1MP!

Im a tad confused at the moment what to purchase i dont want to buy a camera and find out that there is a better one round the corner. The Sony DSCU20 is also a very good camera -

- Can anybody simply suggest a camera that would suite the type i have described?

Thanks to all that help

I'll probably be flamed for this, but if you're going to mainly be putting the pics on a website, you might not need all those megapixels.

Now, this camera can only take about 100 pics at 320x240, but it's tiny, discreet, and only costs £39.99 at Amazon. You could take two to a club and probably have room to spare.

It's certainly not a serious camera in any respect, but it takes respectable pictures for what you're paying.

It's no 1-Ds, but it may be what you are looking for.

Followup to my own post.

Here's a comparison between a Che-ez product and an Olympus.

The Olympus D550 can be purchased for about $200 (US). Look at www.dealtime.com for vendor ratings and pricing. Some of the vendors to ship overseas. I would stay with Olympus, Canon, Nikon, Fuiji, HP or Kodak. That is the order of cameras I would look at buying. Go for 3mp and 3X optical. You can find these cameras with these specs in your price range.

Thanks for the replys.

To tell you the truth im not a major photographer as you may tell so having a camera that is top of the line for quality is not what im looking for (although that would be nice), just as long as it is small (at least 2M) and has a flash. Im tempted with the Toshiba but i think il just be paying for the 1.8" screen! Sorry if this sounds a bit vague but im not real sure about what to get as i know zero about cameras :?

The camera Phil has suggested is the one I would buy if I were in the market for a small digital camera. Although the lowest price I've seen for the D550 is closer to $250 than $200, that should still be in your price range. I personally feel that the sample pictures are more sharply focused and properly exposed than any of the others mentioned in this thread. For that reason alone, I'd recommend it, too.

Compared to the others you mentioned, it is 3MP, has a 3X optical zoom, a larger 1.8" LCD display, an autofocus lens (as opposed to fixed focus), and it will do panoramas.

The d550 looks a bit big to me although it gets great reviews! I was almost set on that Toshiba until i saw a site give it a bad review:

http://www.t3.co.uk/review.asp?rev_id=2535&category=CAM

Then i saw the casio Casio Exilim EX-S2 which is outstanding but a tad pricey. Electrical products in america are so much cheaper than england, are there any on-oline shops that deliver to the UK do you know?

Also as mentioned before, how is it possible for the software provided with the mustek camera able to make the 2.1MP pictures into 3.1MP?
