need help: 1st time digicam buyer!

Hi, I am in the market for a digital camera, and just need some advice.
I travel alot in Europe and sometimes Australia, so I will be doing mostly portrait, landscape/architecture (and some wildlife). I would like:
3.0mp or bigger
movie + sound option
options for exposure/manual focus/aperture setting etc.
a decent optical zoom
something that works well in large, dark places, such as cathedrals
something not too huge, so that it is convenient to carry
durability
$300-$500 price range.

I was looking at the Nikon coolpix 4300, or the canon 230 (or 320, can't remember), and the olympus c4000 camedia. open to suggestions!!
thanks!
tb

The Olympus C4000 has a movie mode but without sound. The Olympus C4040 is a 4mp 3X optical zoom, f1.8 lens (great for low light shooting ie catherdals), movie mode with sound. You can find the camera at www.dealtime.com for under $500. This web site provide reviews by buyers from the vendors.
