I've been playing around with my new Rebel XT for a couple days now (first DSLR) -- is it possible to have shutter speeds longer than 30 seconds? Say it was a meteor shower and you wanted it to be open for several minutes or longer. Is this possible?

A quick look at Steve's review of the camera say that the max shutter is 30 seconds.

If you use 'BULB' mode you then can take shots with exposure times as long as you want.

Good point. You'll want to get a remote shutter release so you don't bump the camera.

I think that Canon makes one with a built-in timer. You might want to read about it to see if it would help you do what you want.
