Default Info about movies with Canon Powershot S230 camera

I've recently bought a Canon Powershot S230 digital camera and have experimented with taking movies with it. It can take movies up to 3 minutes in length.

It came with a program called Arcsoft VideoImpression 1.7, and I can edit the movies with it, but it doesn't give me access to the sound that was recorded with the film.

What would I need to be able to enhance/edit the audio included in the film? There are times I'd like to increase the volume or decrease the volume (especially when there are background comments).

Since I mostly want this for my visits to see my grandson every few months, I'm not interested in buying more expensive equipment (such as a digital video camera or microphones, etc.). I just want to know if there are any relatively inexpensive options that will allow me to do this minimal sound editting.

Any advice would be appreciated!
