In some, but not all, areas of the Forum, the text of messages is so wide that in order to see it all I have to scroll back and forth. This does not seem right. Am I doing something wrong?

That is usually the result of someone posting a photo that is too wide for your screen. It isn't anything you or your computer is doing.

The higher your screen resolution the larger the photo can be without scrolling.

Thank you. I gather then that there is no limit on photo size that would prevent this? Most photo forums I visit have specific posting size limits that prevent this sort of thing. And that seems reasonable to me.

Wide images are the most comon cause, but long URLscan also do that.

Sometimes wide images are reasonable - panoramas being the main example. If they are posted narrow enough to keep text from going off screen, they are to 'short'. Being on a dial-up connection, I won't sit still for large (in file size) images but they can be wide without being large.
