I used an HP618 digicam (3Mp) for over 5 years (5,000+ pics) before it was stolen. I bought a Canon S2 to replace it but it is frequently slightly out of focus - just enough to make the picture look the opposite of sharp, like I'm shooting through a fog. I keep the lens clean and have the problem with various settings, including full automatic. I'm actually ashamed to show the Canon's shots, they are so much worse than my old HP's. I shoot most shots around 1 megapixel resolution with minimal compression.

The Canon Service Center assures me that the camera is working "normally". I recently used a Sony H2 for a couple of days and there is ABSOLUTELY no comparison. What's up?

I'm currently on a "working holiday" in Ukraine and can ill afford to buy another camera. I can't sell the Canon in good conscience, but Canon says it's fine. What can I do

Why such low resolution ?

Normally the idea is to shoot at the highest resolution then crop or resize later.

Have you checked what sharpness settings the camers is on , or have you tried to sharpen later in post processing ?

Sharpness is OK.
Using software to bring the shots of a fairly new $600 camera up to the ones from a very old $400 camera doean't speak well for Canon, does it?

Upload a picture that you think is out of focus.
