Carl Zeiss Teams Up with Nokia to Create High-end Camera Phones

The absurdity of cramming 41-megapixels into a Nokia smartphone's tiny sensor defies description! How could anyone in their right mind think that this is a good idea?!

Should be a pretty crisp photograph

Check the links on the other thread about this. The sensor is considerable larger than usual in a cellphone, and the pixel combining yields some very nice looking 5MP photos.
Nothing I can take advantage of, though, being in a 'no service' area.

???

You need a 41MP sensor to produce a "very nice looking" 5MP photo? If Zeiss can really produce extraordinary 5MP images using a pixel-binning technique, more power to them. But on the face of it, 41MP sounds like pure marketing hype. I'm certainly willing to be proven wrong.

Part of the reason for such a large (physically, as well as MP-wise) is to make use of the f/2.4 lens, for fairly shallow DOF. Part also, is to allow you to zoom with a fixed lens. Granted, when you zoom to the max, you lose the pixel binning function, and the noise is back. The wide angle shots, though, certainly don't look like they were taken with a camera phone.
