Flexible Photosensor

A curved sensor surface could make for simplified (lighter, cheaper) lenses, and the additional light reflected from the substrate means greater sensitivity.

I don't know how useful this would be to conventional photography. The primary advantage would be to shape the sensor as a sphere to eliminate corner softness resulting from Field Curvature. But this isn't a problem for smaller image sensors, and generations of photographic lenses from all manufacturers have been trying project rectilinear images onto large flat sensors, albeit with varying degrees of success, so a new camera that didn't need lenses to do that would have to start from scratch with its own line of lenses. Plus, processing those images so that they could be printed on flat surfaces would make having a curved sensor superfluous.

But who knows...
