I had a chance to take pics of this little Eastern Cottontail using both my cameras. On the left is the Pentax KX with the Tamron 80-200/2.8 and 1.7X AFA for a focal length of `350mm. On the right is the V1 with the Tamron 35-210 at 210mm for a focal length a bit over 370 in an ASP-C camera. Both look good this size though the colors on the V1 are nicer to my eye while the bokeh is better on the Pentax (smaller sensor of the V1 coming into play here). Both pics were shot RAW and developed in Lightroom3. I used pretty similar settings for each so in that regards the cameras are producing similar images. Neither one took a lot of work. Next we'll look at them at 100%

So here is a screen grab comp at 100%. As you can see the V1 blows the other away. Keep in mind that the 80-200 on it's own is a sharper lens and that the AFA auto focuses where as with the V1 it was all manual. I know the 80-200 and AFA combo is capable of better pics so I assume some of this is that it wasn't stopped down enough. But considering the extra size and the ease I have in focusing the V1 as long as the subject fills enough of the viewfinder I don't see any reason to choose the Pentax except in those cases where I need the better high ISO performance.
Maybe this weekend I will try some other comps. Not totally fair since the KX is a much older camera but it's what I have ![]() John Last edited by jelow1966; May 31, 2014 at 2:17 AM. |

Indeed. To be fair to my Pentax I have gotten much better results but as far as consistency the V1 is better. If I get the focus right the shot will be razor sharp. Can't ask for anything better. Really making me think about the FT1 adapter and a good lens.
