CP950 and studio flash

greetings, im beginning to experiment with portraits using my CP950. i have 2 vivitar 285hv bouncing off white umbrellas to start with. since the cp950 has no manual metering, what is the best way to set up metering??? should i set it for aperature mode or shutter speed?? or will the results be just the same by using the auto exposure mode???

also, will the on camera flash have any effect with these higher light units, or should i cover the on-camera flash with some infrared filter material??? im using the on-camera to trip the vivitars using wein peanuts.

thank you in advance.
mikey
