Default Nikon P900 External Flash

Hello, I recently purchased the Nikon P900. I've read where I would be able to use an external flash on a bracket since it doesn't have a hot shoe. Has anyone used one on their P900? I seen this one that might work (Yongnuo YN560EX Supports TTL Speed Flash). Would I have to have a trigger or would the flash fire wireless?

G'day mate

There are 2 basic ways that the camera activates the flash - 1) via the hotshoe or 2) via a short cord called a PC cord that plugs into a small port on the camera somewhere. It appears that your P900 has neither

So, like many others you [incl me] need another solution, and that is a slave gun of some sort

The easest way is to use the camera's popup flash set to 1/2-power to signal to the external flash, and let the trigger in the external flash activate it and take your photo that way. Easy peasy

On your Yongnuo experiment with the S-1 vs the S-2 setting to see which one fires at the same time as the shutter opens [many cameras do a double-flash / red-eye thing before the bright, photo flash]

You can so this by photographing the external flash by pointing it at the camera - your results will show when the 2nd flash fires and then you can start playing from there

Hope this helps
