First , I would like to say that I am another DSLR newbie and the D70 was the choice. I started using this site a couple of weeks ago and I've been impressed with the amount of information that is available on this site and the patience that you folks seem to have with us newbies. Point and shoot will never be the same again. Gave my P&S to my son.

All that said, I have the D70 kit and expect the first additional lens to be a 105mm macro. My current choices are either the Nikon 105mm f2.8D or the Sigma 105mm f2.8 EX DG. Since there is a few hundred difference in the two ($649 vs $369 at B&H) I'm wondering if I'll notice the difference. (I am curretnly below amatuer but plan to improve)? I don't mind the additional expense (although my wife probably will) if the Nikon is noticably better.

BTW, my second addition will probably be the 70-200mm AF-S f2.8 VR and the TC-1.4xII teleconverter.

Great site. Look forward to learning all I can and maybe some day even contribute.

Thanks for any advice.

Well - I picked up a Vivitar 100mm Macro and it's way way sharper then it should be for $100.

Unless you have OTHER great equipement I'd go with the Sigma as I have HEARD it's outstanding.

HOWEVER - the Nikkor is a GREAT lens - the question is - will you see a difference?

Thanks Grinder, I haven't pickedup anythings else yet and think the Sigma is probably the way I'll go. Reasonably sure that with my current skills I won't notice q difference.
