I never considered a grip for my D5k. I like the small size, and putting a grip on it would reduce it's portability for me. Plus, from what I understand, most of these third party grips have to be used in wireless mode, which reduces functionality. |

I ended up getting this one from Amazon:
http://nikondslrtips.com/nikon-d5100...d5100tips-com/ If you like compact, then by all means the grip is not for you. Sure you lose some of the functions, but it does the job of vertical handling which you don't have if you don't have this grip. Also gives a much better feel & balance when you have a longer lens & flash on it. Both are what I got if for... I like it!

How's the battery battery locking latch inside the battery chamber? The reason I ask this question is because I have a Sony version of this battery grip. The battery locking latch gives out after a short while, I have to insert a piece of paper in there to keep it in place. Worst of all, it doesn't like generic batteries. This one look almost like yours, it doesn't have any switches or buttons expect the shutter button.
