Hi All,

I have a D 50 that I purchased about a year and a half ago. The problem is the camera seems to lockup. What I mean about locking up is that it stops shooting, the shutter button stops working, the display shows that I have half a battery. I still can see through the view finder and when I push the shutter button a (r04) code is displayed. It will remain like this for 2 second or 10min.than I may get a shot taken than it locks up agian. there is no apperent pattern, it spend more time lock up then other wise.

At first I thought that it was a bad battery, took it to the camera shop and tried some new charged nikon batter they had there, nothing changed. Than I cleaned the connections ( battery & lens) still no luck. A friend of mine that work at the shop told me that to get it repaired could cost almost as much as a new one  .

Any help would be appricated.

Thanks, David

The r04 code is just the number of shots remaining in the buffer, and not an error. Have you tried a different SD card in the camera?? Otherwise, since you've already ruled out the battery, I think you are looking at a repair issue. If it's going to cost much more than $100-200, I'd just invest in a new camera. The D40 is fairly cheap (although missing the top lcd and focus motor), and a solid performer. I don't recommend trying to repair the cam yourself.

Hi rjseeney,

Sorry for not replying sooner. Thank for the input, the problem has gotten worse so it look like I may have to start shopping around or start using my SLR again.

Thanks again,

Dave
