I just got today the first addition to my D40...a 55-200mm lens. So, I went out to lunch and took a few pictures with it. Even though I shot less than 10 frames, I must say that I'm very impressed with the images it produced (specially considering its low price). The lens is very small (same exact size as the kit lens) and light (slightly heavier than the kit lens). It focus very fast (at least in good daylight) and the images are well saturated and very sharp. Here are some examples...

Tullio-
I have also used the Nikkor 55-200mm lens with my D-50 and will with the D-40 as well. The D-40 is supposed to be delivered today. I find the lens quite useful: small, sharp, fast focusing in normal light, and easy to carry with you. I was sorry to hear that with the introduction of the Nikkor 70-300VR lens that the 55-200mm lens is going to be discontinued. The 70-300mm VR a great lens, but itis HUGE in comparison to the 55-200mm lens. MT/Sarah |

Hi Sarah,
If that's indeed the case, I'm glad I bought one. I can not possibly justify spending the $$$ to buy a VR lens. One thing I'll try this weekend is to attach my Ricoh 1.5x tele converter to the 55-200mm and see what happens. It worked well with the kit lens. This would increase the focal length to 300mm! |

  Tullio- Here are two Nikkor 55-200mm sample photos for you. Ken- Well PMA may indeed present some Nikon surprises. Do you think it really will be a Nikkor 55-200mm VR lens and the D-200s? MT/Sarah |
