Anyways, when I get back home later this week, I'll check my D5000. (I took my d3 and left the d5000 home).

The most noticeable improvements I perceived:
1. Finer LCD 900k pixel vs 240k 2. D5100 can AF in video shooting. It's virtually impossible to have accurate MF in D5000 video, given the low-res LCD. |

Something I have now been pleased about is that my out of the camera shots need very little doing to them. With the D5K I usually had to apply levels to them. I haven't experimented with changing the "picture control" settings ie brightness and contrast yet as it hasn't appeared nescessary. As I said earlier the D5K cancelled out Pic Cont changes if you had ADL on, which I would have changed, now I can do it I dont appear to need to.
Another difference is the Shutter button AEL, with the D5K if the S B AEL was selected "on" it interfered with the exposures in LV, it used the exposure for the previous shot for the current shot, buggered things up completely. With the D5100 it doesn't, so it seems the D5100 has learnt from the D5k. I'm pleased I made the change now.

Today, Nikon announces the new Nikon D5200
How fast Nikon is going through models now a days...D4, D800/E, D600 and now the D5200 - all in the same year. Before that it took them almost 3 years to get a new model out. Whats next? The new D800x and D600s....? ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=4n7wzxg8kVs .. Last edited by Walter_S; Nov 6, 2012 at 8:41 AM. |

I'll probably sell my D5100 sometime early next year and get the new D4 and regulate my current D3 to backup status.

Do you know something I for one am beginning to lose interest.Nikon is following a trend that I have seen before in other products i.e Archery equipment , they brought out a new bow every year that was supposed to be the best bow ever except that it wasn't .I started shaving 60 yrs ago and they bring out a new razor every Xmas but we still get the same shaves we I had when I was 16 yrs old???.
I think it's a good idea to upgrade if there is something you need or a decent improvement, but I think that is only going to happen every few years not every 6 mths. I can see the obvious sales strategy here but it may bite them on the bum if their not careful. With archery equipment it made things difficult for retailers who were always having to discount heavily to shift the "old " models which very often better than the new models.Hence a lot of the old archery bow makers have gone because the retailers stopped stocking them ,they only ordered them in if you put a deposit down first, without trying them first. So their sales plummeted.

Just because they release a new product doesn't mean you have to buy it.

Obviously I realize that. I was just trying to make the point that if a company keeps bringing out new models too often there is a real chance that eventually the public will just shrug it off as yet another marketing gimmic.Which it is already becoming.

Took Nikon over four years to upgrade the D3 to D4.
![]() The D3 was so good it was hard to improve on....
