D600+300mm f4 + tc-14E

For Jim Putnam,

Had a chance to go with 27 other photographers on a boat to view the Figawi Race in Hyannis Harbor, Cape Cod MA.
The race is an annual event that draws hundreds of sailboats of different classes/sizes. The race leaves Hyannis Harbor and the finish is in Nantucket.

Here are a couple of shots taken hand held using the D600 w/ 300mm f4 + tc-14E telecon

Great combo that delivers...!

I'm hoping to be able to save enough to get the 300 f4 AF-S before the end
of the season... It really does work well with a 1.4x converter...

I'm hearing that on the the new cameras (D4, D800/600, D7100), because of
their ability to AF down to f8, it does pretty good with 1.7x and 2x converters
as well with only a very slight loss of IQ...

Hi William,

Yes, it does work just fine with the 1.4telecon. I've tried it with the 2xtelecon and it's not as sharp a combo. BUT, I haven't tried it with the D600 as yet.

Here are a couple more:

Thanks Harj,

I used Nik Software's Color Efex4 as a plug-in to CS6 to give these images a bit of punch. As you can tell, the day was lousy, intermittent rain, cloudy, drab skies. The images, out of the cam lacked some color, contrast and tone.

Beginning to like this plug-in a lot- very versatile.

Hi Zig,

What a fantastic set of pictures, I really like it.

The 3rd and 1st are my favorite.

Thank you for posting.

Yes a great series.

I like 1+2 as well, and I like the sharpness, clarity and the composition in all.
You must have a real good pair of steady hands zig (as well as a good camera tecnique) and especialy being on a boat etc...

Fast shutter speed(1/1250sec) is the trick ;)
