I sold my D7000 for this reason. Great Camera, but the oil spots just wouldn't go away no matter how often I cleaned it.
Got tired of cleaning it up via CS3 all the time. I'm back to the D5100 for now.

Hi y'all. Like all of you, I've had problems after 400 pictures & I cleaned it up a couple of times, and at 2500+ cleaned a couple of times again. After that I had no more problems. Wish you guys luck! Jeff ![]() |

I am still amazed Nikon allowed this to happen. Despite what some people allege it is unusual for DSLRs to suffer from this.

Add me to the list of oil on the sensor. All my honeymoon pictures have the spots. Wasn't until I got home that I notice where the spots came from. Hit them with some compressed air, thinking it was dirt/dust, and it left little oil trails. Gently cleaned with sensor cleaner (don't remember the brand offhand) and within about 20 shots, the oil is back. Glad yet saddened that there are others in the same boat as me. It is taking me forever to edit out the visible spots. 1500 honeymoon/wedding pics takes a while. So frustrated...

I'll be watching out for signs of oil on the sensor of the D800/E. If that camera also suffers from it then Nikon will have a serious problem on their hands. I just don't begin to arrive at any sort of justification - surely they've simply used the wrong lubricant? And then not tested it properly.

It was bad enough that I sold it after a year of frustration.
