Is there any updates on this issue?

Looking at upgrading from the D70 to the D7000 but the oil issues appear to be a problem.

Is this every D7000 or only a few, and is it still happening

Happens to a lot of them. I finally sold mine because of it recurring over and over and got a D3.
The D3 smokes the D7000

Thanks Jack - I would expect the D3 to be better than the D7000

Just seems that reading here and a lot of other places that it was only the early models affected, and even then, most of it was dirt not oil.

Ken Rockwell would have mentioned it if it was serious

I was wondering if anyone had bought one in the last few months, brand new and still had the same problem - nothing in the press etc

FWIW, I've got the D7000. Bought it last September, and yes, it too, suffers from oil on the sensor. But to be honest, the only time I see the spots is when I'm post processing images where I've used aperture settings beyond F10. Up to F10 and I really just don't see them.

When this occurs, I generally see about 5 or 6 spots, easily cleaned in in CS6. As a result, I've not done anything about it nor do I expect to.

And, to answer you're question directly, I don't believe that Nikon has totally solved that issue. There has been no press that states that Nikon has resolved it.

That is just not on now is it. Def puts me off even contemplating buying one now!

Zig seems not to mind the problem because it's fixable in Photoshop.
And only shows up in certain pictures like Zig also said.

My take is this:
I had the D7000 almost a year and put up with that.
One day, enough is enough! Almost switched to Canon.
However since the the Nikon's I had before it, D5000, D300 were very good, so I got the D3.
A camera of that caliber and cost should NOT have that problem and NIKON should address the problem.
Google it and you will see that a LOT of folks had that problem.

After sending it back a second time to fix the problem they replaced the mirror lockup assembly and I never had the problem again. So its fixable. No regrets getting the D7000. To see if you have the problem set aperture to f22, focus to infinity and shoot a nice bright sky. They will show up as black dots, mostly on the right side of the image.

Hi guys, your thoughts, is the spot in the upper left oil?

This near the end of a continuous set of shots @ F22. I guess the exif is there, I did not try to remove it.
