To see the difference between the Nikkor FX 20mm f/2.8 and Tamron DX 17-50mm f/2.8 with the D800E here is a photo of my Birding area in the backyard.
(Why is this forum not allowing "attach files" anymore???) (now I have to upload to my server and use a link to the image icon at the top)

I did no editing or cropping except to resize to post here to show you the difference between a FX & DX lens.
First pic is taken with the Nikkor FX 20mm f/2.8

Using the Tamron DX 17-50mm f/2.8 the D800E automatically went to DX mode at 17mm and about half the resolution

I'll be keeping the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8

I like the Sony Camera Club on Flickr, but I'm an administrator, so I have to.

I don't think much of dpreview. I once said something unfavorable about an 18-200mm lens, and everything I posted after that was countered by hate speech.

The biggest difference would be the 7,360 4,912 image you get with the Nikkor 20/2.8 and the 4,800 3,200 you get with the Tamron 17-50/28.

I'd suggest you keep the Tamron for your D7500 where you'll get 5,568 3,712.

That is the plan, I have three very good Tamron lenses for the D7500 and right now the 20mm f/2.8 for the D800e
I bought that setup just for landscapes. I was just trying them on the FX to see how'd they look.
My Nikkor AF-S 200-500mm is an FX lens, so it works on both, but I put it on the D7500 for a longer reach.

I have a Tokina 100-300/4 that hardly ever comes off my Nikon D7200. (That's 24MP, versus 20MP for the D7500.)

I use my Tamron 17-50/2.8 as well as my Sigma 70/2.8 Macro on my Sony A77 II because of the IBIS.

I tend to agree with you on dpreview... I got slammed the past two day posting the two pics that I posted here in an eight year old post.
I thought it was related and a good post as it was what we were talking about here. Age of posts shouldn't matter. I might be done with that forum.
DX lens on D800/D800E - what happens?

Some comments from that:So it's not ok to keep it going then??? Seems like a good topic.
Seems pointless to me... Why would people want to read an 8 year old thread - again.... If you have something new to say, why not start a new thread?
Because it tied into this threads topic.
Only one guy, jcfhsu made a nice comment on it.

BTW, I'm gonna make a new topic you might want to check out and give advice called "Best settings for Moonrise tonight over Mt Rainier"

I just got the Nikkor 24-120mm f/4 lens to go with my D800e that I got recently.

G'day fellas

Not been following this thread (not being a Nikon user) but interested to see each of you / your choice of lenses
Back in film camera days, my 2 K-mount bodies had a 100-300 as my day to day std lens and the other body had the 28-105 ............ each mirroring you two fellas and your current situations

Well done for each of us
Phil
