Default First snaps with the D800 + 50mm

A random sample of pics with D800 and just the 50mm 1.8G. Pics taken RAw and converted in LR (Camera Neutral profile).

1. Wraps

2. Spitfire

3. Siesta

4. One of my wee pups

5. Cycling...

6. Shakespare

I've been impressed with the 50mm .. looks to be nice and sharp at f2.2-4 and the lens is AF isn't as bad as I thought it might be.
Its definitely easier to street shoot with the 50, alothough i keep having to remind myself to zoom with feet. A big pluspoints are its a lot less intimidating and light weight but I'm not sure I like the FL at the moment.

The D800's AF-C is just in another league compared to the E3's and being able to track headon and lock focus with the cyclists I only had a handful of OFF shots. That simply wouldnt be the case with the Oly.

Regards the 4FPS/5FPS - thats fast enough for me although I think wiating for the buffer to clear could be a bit of a pain when shooting sports.

More testing possibly tomorrow but this time with the 85.

Congratulations Harj for the new gear.

Beautiful series, my favorites are 1 and 4, the 50mm 1.8 G is the best of all the 50mm lenses in the market and for that price is really a steal...!

You are jumping from the E3 to the D800 thats a great upgrade in IQ and AF speed.

Welcome to the dark side..!!

Hi Hartj, Nice to see you making some pictures again and with a D800 :-). You made already some very nice pictures ! Here I even do get very sharp results at 1.8 with the 50mm lens. Greetings, Pascal
One photo out of focus is a mistake, ten photo out of focus are an experimentation, one hundred photo out of focus are a style.
