Unless I'm missing something on the Nikon D40 there's three focus brackets with which to use for focusing, but when I mount a 50mm Ai-S lens the only bracket it will use is the center. This would mean I'd have to focus/recompose and with that I have one question... if I'm taking a portrait and want focus on the eyes I'd point the bracket on the eyes, focus and then move the camera to compose. In moving the camera wouldn't that shift the focus from the eyes to where ever the bracket points to now?

The focus won't change unless you change it, since the that lens will not Auto focus with the D40. Only AF-s lenses autofocus with the D40-40x-60. All other lenses you must focus manually...thus once you focus, unless you change the distance from the subject, you don't have to worry about focus changing when you recompose.

Thanks for the clarification. I was fooled by the red dot when you press the shutter release half way and the green dot for focus lock even when I had a manual focus lens attached.
