TCav will read my suggestion and probably scratch his head in wonderment because I'm usually the one that chastises the camera manufacturers for packing sensors with more pixels rather than improving other important aspects of the functionality of the camera body.But.....

In the case of the D5200, I think it would be the appropriate way to go since it also borrows many of the other important features of the D7000 as well as a thing or two from the D800 full frame body.

In addition to the improved 24MP sony sensor, the D5200 includes:
a better processing engine ( EXPEED 3)
5fps continuous shooting
the 39 point AF system w 9 cross type sensors (D7000)
ISO performance ISO100-6400
a better RGB metering system
and finally an AUTO ISO system borrowed from the D800.

Thats quite an improvement in the feature set from the D5100.

And as far as each file being significantly larger due to the higher pixel count,
so what, memory is cheap these days. The benefits derived from having an image with higher resolution and processed thru a better processing engine far outweighs the cost of memory.

Of course, with higher pixel count in the sensor, you also will find that better lenses will produce better images. But, if you can afford to wait and get the D5200, it's worth it.

Thanks guys for the clarifications. Still feeling that the "approximate" US value of the 5200 is going to be around $1200. Thats out of my range at the moment. Lets see what shows up in the mail. And if I land this huge project at work. Then maybe I'll end up with three cameras!
