Hi Can anyone tell me if the Nikon ML-L3 remote control is compatible with the D5000.
The D5000 is no longer listed on Nikon UKs site ,and as it's discontinued now it's not even listed on the compatible list of the ML-L3. I would like to get one if it's ok. Thanks

Plus, page 65 of the D5000 manual shows how to set the camera up for the ML-3, both the quick response and delayed modes.

Thanks ,I was a bit quick off the mark with my O.P and have since spotted this.(had not looked at the book in ages)
As a matter of interest I now have the ML-L3 which works well but I have had a hells known job trying to open the battery compartment. I had to use a knife to prize it open. It is not very well made, think kiddies toy quality, I think they will probably vary a lot and are over priced imho, certainly at high street prices. Got mine thru Amazon which made it a bit more reasonable.

http://www.amazon.com/Remote-Shutter...7416582&sr=8-2 Same dang thing... They are simply just an infrared flashlight, nothing more, the battery is more expensive to manufacture... ![]() Edit: The most important thing with all of these is to get a fresh new battery as the ones that come with them usually go dead real fast... The batteries are just standard calculator batteries that can usually be found at the grocery store, etc... ![]()

It's interesting that with mine it will fire the shutter indoors, from almost any position even directly behind but outdoors I have to point directly at the front.
So it seems the signal bounces of walls. It is of limited use for wildlife shooting owing to the fact that the D5000 has a maximum of 15 minutes before it switches back to standard or cont. shooting, or what ever the camera was set at before remote was selected. I suppose every 14 mins you could take a shot then it would start the 15 mins again. I bought it mainly for taking pics with myself in,(handsome devil), as I was getting fed up with setting the camera timer and then doing an Olympic style sprint to get into position,(got some good shots of my backside though), usefully it will take multiple shots as quick as I can press the button.

Im interested in info on delay mode, or rather removing it. When I click the remote there is a noticeable delay until the camera fires. From what I can see the minimum time is 1 second. How about instantly?

You press the I info button bottom left below LCD panel .Toggle to select Release Mode ,press OK, then there is a remote control symbol with 2 scs next to it and one below with nothing next to it ,that is the instant one. None of the others work with the remote except Bulb which is in Manual mode. I think the 1 second you refer to, is when the remote shuts down default on the D5000 and can be set at intervals up to 15 secs, nothing to do with timing of the shutter.
