Looks like the mold has been broken. Could be a good thing or just another gimmick to sell more cameras. From what I have read it looks to be more an offering of something new and innovative and borrowed as well from the D300 in some respects. Using the CMOS sensor is a nice step in a direction I have been awaiting. The D300 and D3 are proven performers and has enjoyed a shift of new owners from the other makes. Also, the D90 can use the newest technology of the fastest SD card out there. Shooting at 4.5 fps is also a nice step-up. The list goes on.
If this performs as well as it sounds like the D300 it is a no brainer for me to have this in my grubby little paws. Mahalo, Tom |

I posted this in the other Nikon forum but this dSLR forum is probably a better place.
Nikon D90 will be released soon and there are some sites offering pre-release prices a couple of hundres dollars below suggested list. My question is, historically, when a camera has pre-release pricing does the price of the camera typically increase back to list once it becomes available? Is there any disadvantage to buying the first released cameras? Thanks! |

In most cases, when you see prices that are much lower on major brand cameras than the larger vendors like http://www.bhphotovideo.com, you are dealing with scammers. Did you check the vendor reputations using http://www.resellerratings.com? The scammers will call you to confirm the order. Then, you'll also find out that they'll want to sell you high priced batteries, extended warranties, stuff that normally comes with the camera anyway; include inflated shipping and insurance charges (sometimes unauthorized). Anything to increase their profit (since they can't sell the camera alone at the advertised prices without losing money). If you don't buy enough of the outrageously priced extras, your camera will suddenly go to backorder status (of course, the web sites still show them in stock and your credit card has been charged). They'll often sell gray market gear, too (not intended for sale in the country you live in with a store versus manufacturers warranty). Note that Nikon USA will usually refuse to service a grey market camera (and they'll know by it's serial number), even if you are willing to pay for the service. This has been going on for years. It's a racket. Make sure to check out any vendor you consider using http://www.resellerratings.com (they're a bit better about filtering out fake customer reviews compared to most ratings sites) If the vendor is not listed, I'd avoid them (these guys tend to start up new web sites often under a variety of names). If they have a small number of customer reviews there, avoid them (they tend to try and get away with padding their own ratings with glowing reviews). Some even seem to have their own ratings sites now (with all of the stores listed being same old scammers, with the reviews unbelievably good). Anyone heard of what capacity sdhc card the Nikon D90 will be able to take? I've already purchased the 8GBSanDisk so I hope it'll work.

Ok, just saw it on the website. The Nikon D90 will be able to take a 32gb sd card and will thankfully be able to use the SanDisk 8 gb that I purchased recently.
