Raw Images with the Nikon D70

Hi I recently purchased the Nikon D 70 about two weeks ago. I am new to digital photography having shot film for three years now. Can someone explain to me the advantage of shooting in raw and maybe give me some tips.

Raw is the rough equivalent of a film negative. It allows you to manipulate the settings AFTER you take the image. It gives you the appromimate ability to raise or lower exposure levels, change the White Balance, mess with the noise controls, in post processing.

So whatever many of the camera settings you made when the picture was taken, can be altered later in the RAW converter.
