Default Tip of the day - cheap remote

OK, Nikon's IR based remote for D40 and other D series cameras is cheap enough at less than $20, I just saved the $20.

Using the expensive Harmony One for home theater, I was able to program in Nikon as one of the devices. It doesn't have "camera" as a selection, so chose "home appliance" "Nikon" brand from dropdown menu then typed in the model. On the remote, the device shows as PVR which I could go in and rename.

After setting the camera shutter for remote operation, had to play around as the obvious button "Enter" did not work. Randomly hitting buttons, finally fired as I hit the volume "+" button.

Obviously not "professional" looking if in front of clients, but certainly OK for personal use.

May work with other programable remotes. Just my tip for the day.

gotta love it. :-)

Some remotes have a "learn" mode now, too. So, if you have (or could borrow) a real Nikon remote, you can use one to record the commands from it. For example, I found this one with a quick google search you could pick up at your local Target for $11.89.

Very interesting, but the Nikon ML-L3 is about 15 bucks on Amazon and is about the size of a quarter. Only problem I have with it is that there is no provision for a cord or lanyard. Because of the small size it is easily misplaced.
