rlewis-

Congratulations on your new D-90. It is a fine camera. Please post some photos when you have a chance.

jack55-

Yes, the step up to the D-90 will serve you well and you would be able to use any Nikon lens, as oppossed to the restriction on the D-5000's.

Have a great day.

The new D300s is just way too expensive and doesn't really do that much more than the D90 can.
good choice JAck, sure you will be quite happy!

I have had my D90 now for a few months and I'm very satisfied. I also bought a Tokina 11-16 recently and the combination of D90 and the Tokina 11-16 is an absolute winner imo.

As simple simply said it:

UPDATE:
Well, I've had my D5000 for 11 months now and it has been a great camera.
I did my Nesting Bald Eagle story with it... here is the link:
Nesting Bald Eagles

However, I found I missed a lot of good flight shots as the D5000 wasn't quite fast enough. So for next years story I got me a D300 which give me more speed, fps for flight shots. So far I really like this camera. The D5000 compliments it well as I put my other lens on it and use it for video or where I have to bend over etc (tilting LCD).

Sure makes a great combo.
