Hello,

I was wondering if I could get some advice on white balancing on the nikon d50 for some reason the camera does not seem to be able to capture an image the way I see it. the color is not the same it comes out kind of dull or off. I was wondering if there is a way to get the camera to take a picture like what your shooting. I am shooting colorful mushrooms.

Also what kind of tripod would you all recommend and where to buy it?

Thanks.

Setting white balance depends on the main source of light. If its sun set it to daylight, etc. Usually, the camera's auto white balance setting does a decent job. You could also shoot in RAW and adjust the white balance in post work. A 3rd option is to adjust the color settings...there is a whole submenu that can crank up sharpness, color, and contrast.

rjseeney,

Hi and thanks for helping.

Yeah I am shooting outdoors in the shade of a hardwood forest, but the weather was sunny when I was experiencing frustration.

I do shoot in Raw though.

Do you think I should get something better then a little business card to set the white balance?

Thanks.

Using the shade setting for the white balance results in warmer tones, and may have been appropriate in the situation you described.
